This week Chris and I decided that it was time for Sadie to be done with the pacifier. She mostly uses it when she goes down for a nap or for bed, but sometimes she likes to sneak it in her mouth when we aren't paying attention.
So yesterday I decided to put our plan into action. After we got home from church (a pacifier-less event) I gathered all of the pacifiers, snipped the end of one of them and gave it to Sadie. I tried not to laugh as she took two sucks and it fell out of her mouth. She seemed confused, but she just picked it up and put it back in her mouth for another few sucks, after which she spit it out and said, "yucky!!" I put her down for a nap with her broken pacifier and it took her about 1/2 hr to fall asleep. It only took 5 minutes last night, so it is getting better! This morning she took the 'yucky' pacifier and threw it away in the garbage, so I am hoping that is the last we will see of pacifiers in our house for a while. I am sure that she will have a hard time for a while going to sleep without it, but we should have done this a while ago!!!

That's cool. I had never heard of that method before. Kaden never got into the pacifier thing, but I'm sure one of our future kids will. Thanks for sharing!
I just did that with Cooper! It was so funny because when I showed him the "broken binkie" he just laughed. He had no problems that night and I thought "Well that was easier than I thought!" (Considering I was scared to death to take it away) but for the next couple days he was a beast! I told myself that after a week, if he wasn't back to his normal self I was giving it back but things are back to normal now, thank goodness. I knew wanted to get rid of it before the next little guy came but it was still hard to get rid of such an easy fix. Sounds like Sadie is already adjusting quite well though!
This is sad with a capital s!
Hooray! Now if Sadie could teach Gabi how do do without a bottle...we would be :)
