I'm looking for some advice that most of you ladies should have an opinion about.
This all started on Saturday when we were hanging out at the Davis' watching the BYU football game before Chris and I went to a firm banquet. Just before we had to leave I managed to glance at a mirror and notice that although I had a nice blouse and skirt on, I had NO makeup on. For those of you who know me you know that I usually look at least 5-10 years younger than I really am even with makeup on, and so you can imagine how horrified I was to realize that I would look at the oldest 15 to most of these established professionals that my husband works with. I wonder what they think of Chris for having a child bride. It really is humiliating. Not to mention the fact that Chris told them to put Lolly on my name tag instead of Laurel, further emphasizing my childishness. I'm ok with most people calling me Lolly, as long as they know me and can see past the juvenile name that I fear will follow me into my golden years.
Back to the topic, I confessed to Teri how dumb I felt about not having any makeup on, and being the nice person she is she let me borrow some basics like eyeshadow and eyeliner (and I don't want to hear any lectures on why people shouldn't share makeup.) She had this really cool eye shadow that I have since purchased for myself from L'Oreal called bare naturals. It's great stuff.
Now that I have gotten all of my ranting out, here is the real question. What makeup brands and products have you enjoyed and do you have any suggestions on application or what to do to make me look older? I am really pretty clueless when it comes to makeup, so anything will help.

MAC is my favorite for most things but it can get expensive. I would say invest in some good brushes. They can make even not so good make up look great. Good luck!
IDK how you feel about my makeup application but I have read a lot on this subject...I get my make up custom blended from zethina.com She is a local gal that also has fantastic brushes! I don't do their whole line but it does last a long time. Email me if you want more info. OK that last line sounded like it was a pyramid scheme or something...its not I swear! LOL We need to get together again!
BTW-relish in the fact that you look younger, it may be a pain now but in about 10 years you will be reveling in your youthfulness! Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen!! :)
Jack says...She wants to look older huh? Has she considered getting a tattoo or perhaps taking up smoking?
I don't know what it's called, but that stuff that Holly put on me for my party was off the hook. It really felt natural and I think it really accentuated my high cheek bones.
Prescriptives is my personal favorite, but you have to go to a real Prescriptives rep. at the mall because they have a whole to do that matches your color to certain groupings of make-up. The first time I went it was a MAC girl that got me set up. She did a fine job, but I missed out on the whole point of Prescriptives. Since it gets kind of pricey, though, I usually stick with them for foundation and lip color since those are the hardest to find quality for cheap (for me).
My picks:
Mascara- Maybelline Great Lash
Foundation- I prefer a tinted moisturizer because it's much lighter (Stila and Lorac are good brands)
Eyeliner- I have a really good liner brush and I either use a dark MAC eyeshadow dry, or I mix a couple drops of saline in if I want a liquid liner
Blush- Nars is a pretty good brand
Lip stuff- I usually just wear Carmex, but mix in a touch of lipstick if I need some color
Hope that helps! :D
I've been using Mary Kay for a while (my sister does it), and I've really liked it. It doesn't kill your budget, but it's way nicer than most things you can find in regular discount stores like Walmart or Target.
But I must say -- don't try to look older! That will happen soon enough! I get people asking me all the time if I'm eighteen (and giving me really weird looks if I happen to have my almost-five-year-old with me). It bothered me for a while, but now that I'm twenty-five, I've gotten to the point where I can appreciate looking younger than my age. I've just learned to laugh about it.
Last of all, you really don't look fifteen to me. You definitely don't look twenty-four (that's your real age, right?), but not fifteen. In my case the reason I look young is because I've still got baby fat cheeks. In your case it's because you have the most trim figure and lovely features imaginable. People think you look young because they can't believe that a woman who has lived for nearly a quarter of a century can still look so pure and innocent. Enjoy it.
Do you think I should have Derek wear make up so he'll look as old as me? Imagine if the two of you were married, people would wonder why a couple of 15 year olds got married. Ha!
Now, get your butt over here and finish my bathroom. (I can boss you around like this cause you're soooo young!)
Once when levy and I were cleaning offices (hair in ponytail, no make-up) a lady came up to me and commented on how nice it was that I was helping my dad work on a Saturday. I had the vacuum running so it took me a minute to process it and realize she thought Levy was my dad. I know I look young, but seriously!
I go back and forth on this- I like my make-up to look natural and light, but I also want to look nice and of age. I've found that eye liner really helps me- just coffee colored along 3/4 of the upper lid. That and mascara are my two favorite make-up items.
I just wear eyeshadow (I use covergirl, but I really like the kirkland mineral eye shadow- the color is better, and it stays longer.) Coffee colored e.l.f eye liner, Revlon luxurious lengths mascara- love it. Some powder, and maybelline blush. Nothing fancy here. Someday we'll just be able to smile at all of our old looking friends :)
Laurel, I am a Mary Kay girl myself (on everything except my mascara - long story) because when I have make up on it feels like I don't (but looks like I do). My face is not-so-cute without make-up so MK products have become my friends.
