. . . and women. Yesterday was a crazy day for Sadie and I. By 11 we had gone to Walmart, Ace Hardware, Fry's (grocery shopping), and to the bank. Then my friend Holly called and wanted to know if I wanted to watch Twilight with her, because she knew I hadn't seen it-- I know, I know, you probably didn't think that there was still someone who hadn't seen Twilight yet. So she gave me a redbox code and told me which redbox actually had it in stock. We got the movie, but this is when our busy morning got even more interesting. Somehow I locked my keys and Sadie in the car. I usually have my cell phone in my pocket, but I had put it in my purse after putting in the redbox code. I remembered that there was this lady checking out at Walgreen's with a little boy who was throwing a tantrum, and she was being really cute about handling it. When she came out I asked her if I could use her phone and she was great. I called Chris first because I had heard this rumor that you can open car doors through cell phone and your key fob. Let me tell you we couldn't get it to work. Then Hope (what a perfect name for the mom who let me borrow her phone) decided that she would call AAA, and while talking to AAA they said they would alert the fire station because Sadie was locked inside. Luckily I was parked in the shade and I don't think it was even 80 degrees yesterday, so we knew she would be ok, but we didn't want her in there for too long. So we waited 10 minutes, and still nothing, which is weird because there are two fire stations within about 3 miles of the Walgreen's. Sadie was starting to get worried and was complaining a little, and started crying real tears. So Hope called 911 and the firemen were there in no time. Sadie really freaked out when five or six firemen surrounded our car, trying to unlock the door. They got it open in just a few minutes, but Sadie was pretty hysterical. I held her and tried to calm her down, and one of the firemen gave her a bear (I have no idea where it came from.) They were all so nice, when I told my mom later she said, "did they try and give you a ticket for neglect?" but they didn't at all, they just scolded me a little bit for calling AAA at all and not just calling them directly first. Thank you Hope and the Gilbert FD! I hope to not need your help again anytime soon.

oh, this brings back bad memories for me involving IKEA, a crying 2-week old Carter, and keys locked in the car with him. It was awful!!! Lucky my sister was there and called 911 who was there in 2 minutes (longest 2 minutes of my life!) and they had the door open in 30 seconds. I'm glad i'm not alone in this experience :-)
Ohmygoodness!!! I have nightmares about leaving Z in the car, but they usually end in me hysterically breaking in a window to rescue her. :-) I am glad you kept your cool and that all ended well. Did any of the firemen have cute rear-ends? I heard once - from a friend, of course - that they do.
This has always been a fear of mine, although I think I'm out of the woods now since El can unlock the car doors by herself. Glad it wasn't too hot & she was alright. This happened to my friend on a hot day with her baby & he had to go to the hospital for dehydration.
I did this last summer! I was at the car wash and Kaden was playing in the car. He locked the door. Some guy pried open the window and bent the chrome, but at least we got Kaden out because it was hot out!
